I do remember selling ammo for medkits or nodes. Resource management? I don't remember a single time in DS1 and 2 where I ran out of ammo. How conveniently people forget about how much action and jump scares there were in DS2. Isaac even jokes about this in the second game ("I have a lot of experience" and other such lines in both 2 and 3). We as the players and Isaac are no longer terrified of necromorphs. The only horror game in the franchise is the 1st one. In movement, shooting and everything else. The gameplay is identical to the first 2 games. You pick on the part of the story that is universally hated (and for good reason) and not talk about the rest of the story, the implications or the lore expansions. Dead Space 3 is not bad at all, it just doesn’t feel like a dead space game in the way 1 and 2 did. The game really gets good once you get to the science labs though, the change in lighting and mood really made the game start to feel like dead space and it’s really sad that the best part is at the end, meaning most won’t slog through to get there. Planet-side, most of the areas are bright and look the same as well. The ships all have the same look and even the same layout for some rooms save for a few changes. For the first half or so of the game most of the environments are bland and just slightly different copies of each other. They’re still fun to kill, but the lack of variety in most encounters makes it repetitive. It’s just slashers and fodder most of the time except the occasional feeder and stalker appearance. It’s fun, but it doesn’t feel like dead space. Moving from the more horror and resource management based 1 and 2, 3 makes shooting off limbs and managing ammo feel like more of a suggestion than a necessity. Norton being a dick for no conceivable reason is annoying, and Ellie being sex appeal feels like a slap in the face to fans of DS2. The SCAF stuff is interesting but the Ellie Norton Isaac love affair just feels annoying more than anything. Out of the 3, it’s arguably the weakest in terms of story. Four things really hamper dead space 3 from matching its predecessors.
